Why TRIFORCE® Joists are The Smarter Choice for Sustainable, High-Performance Building?

TRIFORCE® open web joists are an ideal environmentally-friendly solution for today’s construction industry, delivering strength, adaptability, and sustainability. With increasing pressure from tight deadlines, stricter environmental requirements, and labor shortages, this engineered wood floor system offers a forward-thinking way for builders, architects, and developers to work smarter and faster.

TRIFORCE® Joist, an excellent sustainable choice

Sustainable Manufacturing with Nature’s Most Renewable Resource

TRIFORCE® joists are a future-ready solution built in a green plant mostly made of wood. Our manufacturing facility runs entirely on hydroelectric power—a completely clean energy source. To further reduce our ecological footprint, we have optimized our operations to consume minimal energy.

Wood is the most eco-friendly and renewable building material in North America. It is a natural resource that can be recycled, repurposed, and replenished, making it a highly sustainable choice. Building with wood helps combat climate change, preserve natural resources and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.

Wood is North America’s most eco-friendly building material

6 reasons why we are eco-friendly :

  1. Reducing CO₂ emissions
Wood absorbs carbon dioxide (CO₂) throughout its growth. Unlike materials such as concrete or steel, whose production generates significant greenhouse gas emissions, wood stores carbon even after it has been transformed into a building material.
  2. Renewable resource
Unlike materials derived from fossil or non-renewable resources, wood comes from sustainably managed forests that can be replanted and regenerated, ensuring a continuous ecological cycle.
  3. Low grey energy consumption
Turning wood into a building material requires much less energy than producing concrete or steel, reducing its carbon footprin
  4. Thermal insulation and energy efficiency
The open space between the members makes it easy to insert insulating materials and as wood is not a thermal conductor, there is little heat loss by conduction. And since no drilling is required in the joist, thermal bridges are minimized.
  5. Biodegradable and recyclable
At the end of their life cycle, wood elements can be reused, recycled or decompose naturally without generating pollution, unlike synthetic or mineral materials.
  6. Less environmental impact during construction
Wooden buildings are often lighter, require shallower foundations and can be assembled quickly, reducing the ecological footprint of the construction site.

Why Open Web Floor Structure like TRIFORCE® Are a Smart Choice for Green Building

  • TRIFORCE®  joists are made from engineered wood
They optimize the use of wood fibers, which reduces waste production. What’s more, the fact that they can be adjusted on site, due to their trimmable section, also reduces waste. And thanks to their finger-joint assembly, the dimensions of the webs don’t have to match those of the chords, allowing optimum use of the wood fiber.
  • Thanks to their open-web design
These elements provide better insulation and limit thermal bridges, optimizing the home’s energy efficiency. Metal plate joists, on the other hand, cause heat loss because metal is a conductive material and when they are in contact with both interior and cold exterior, they can act as thermal bridges. TRIFORCE® joists also offer good thermal performance, as their open structure makes it easy to install continuous insulation between the joists.
  • Built in a sustainable plant
Due to better cutting, precise measurements, or optimized processes, the TRIFORCE® facility has significantly minimized its raw material waste, bringing the loss rate down to just 3%. That’s a sign of both cost savings and environmental responsibility.
  • Sustainable glue
The adhesive glue used to join the different parts of TRIFORCE® is a structural type waterproof resorcinol glue that is NES and CCMC approved. It contains no or very few substances harmful to health or the environment, such as volatile organic compounds. Which improves indoor air quality in buildings. This also helps to protect workers during the manufacturing process, and to obtain environmental certifications (such as LEED).
  • Reducing transport emissions
TRIFORCE® joists are lightweight because they are partially open and have no metal plates, so you can carry more joists at a time on the same truck. At the same time, this lightness means that less fuel is used for the same volume transported. The result is lower transport-related CO 2 emissions. What’s more, their low weight makes them easy to handle on the job site, and reduces the need for heavy machinery that consumes diesel, gasoline or other fuels, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
